News from Argentina today Monday is that two gold mine operations, namely Cerro Vanguardia (AngloGold Ashanti) and Minera Santa Cruz (51% Hochschild, 49% McEwen Mining) are currently being evacuated due to outbreaks of Covid-19. All personnel testing negative are being moved out, with only those testing positive (or with recent close contact with personnel testing positive) allowed to stay on site. Authorities are also in the middle of testing at the Cerro Blanco Negro (Newmont) (EDIT; ty comments) mine in the same vicinity, and are due to make a decision in the next few hours.
Why are Argentine officials testing miners for COVID at a Newmont owned mine? Since NEM require all employees to be vaccinated i would expect no incidence of COVID could exist at all at a Newmont mine.
You’d need to ask them. I don’t make ’em up, I just pass ’em along.
Hahahaha
Mark. Small typo – Newmont´s mine is Cerro Negro… (not Cerro Blanco)…:). I know because I worked there…
Not a typo, just dumb. Thanks, will correct.
