Always amusing to see how you ruff’n’tuff mining people bleat and moan about political correctness the moment it suits you. Alcohol is normal and so are the people who drink it, an evening drinker of beer or wine isn’t an alcoholic and their private life is nothing at all to do with me. Equally, if your mining CEO is a recreational toker it doesn’t bother me in the slightest, but if she or he is doing $1k’s worth of cocaine a week, things change. Food and calories is the same.
Even setting aside the long hours and stress, the mining CEO life isn’t easy on the body: Sat down, often in front of a plate of food, on what seems like a perma-PR jaunt and required to entertain. You’re grabbing meals at odd times, have crappy sleep patterns and a regular time for your hour at the gym is a pipe dream. CEOs get overweight, but those aren’t the people who are displaying a signal lack of control over their base emotions. We leave that image to Sean Roosen, Richard Warke and the other truly obese CEOs; if you cannot control the movement of your hand to your mouth, how are you going to control a public company? You may not like the idea, oh shrinking violet readership, but this is capitalism and in any other sector a 300lb lump of protoplasm as CEO is an immediate red flag on your company. The only reason it’s not in mining is because the sector is still stuck in the 20th century and the fatties still run the show (who also tend to be male and white, but that’s another story).
Can’t wait for the “medical condition” argument, the one that exists only in North America.
Aint nothing that 1,500 cals a day for six months won’t fix.
Really, fat people can’t manage a mining company? Can they lead countries (Churchill)? or armies (Kublai Khan)? Can they be actors (John Goodman)?
What a shameful post.

“Offended Of North America”
Now ask an analyst in the tech sector. Or retail. Sorry man, the market laughs at your perceived offense. In one breath the mining industry vows to modernize, in another it refuses to accept a few hard facts of life. Politically correct when it suits you, snowflake.
I guess you’re right, you are the 50th most influential person in the mining industry after all, who am I to argue.
Isn’t fat-shaming against the the social justice warrior rule book or is being angry all of the time part of your weight loss plan?
Beautiful the way you too zoom in on the word “fat” and hang your offence on it, Snowflake II. Try the words “morbidly obese”, as in the title. That is because there are many morbidly obese mining CEOs. Feel free to write your own post rather than changing mine in your head, you’ll find it an interesting experience.
Science tells us this post is spot on.

I find this all incredibly hilarious! I couldn’t give a hoot about “fat” shaming or whatever you call it. This is just damn funny to read. The mining industry is backward and archaic. That’s a fact. Love it, Otto.
How Warke actively “manages” his companies is often unclear to me, but Roosen is convincing. Speed and big numbers.
Yes Sean, but does smaller brain size equate to lower intelligence though? If so why are some people I know with large melons such dolts? Not talking about my father-in-law. Really I’m not. Really.
I know I refuse to put my money in a company that isn’t led by an absolute HUNK with chiseled abs and a rock hard ass. Nice to see there are others out there that share my perspective.
And when I confess to buying a junior under a female CEO for the same reasons…?
I don’t care whether the sentiment extends towards a man or a woman. All I’m saying is that these fatties could all use the same “weight loss” treatment:

I liked your comment a lot, Phil.
what about Peggy Witte, (Margaret Kunt), “Fat’ Wally B of Lion One, Clive T Johnson., Johnson, or “two bottles a day” John McConnel….they all reaped more off the Shareholders Buffet Table than most others combined,,,just saying…
Bad language is unnecessary.
opps sorry, honest typo
Totally agree.
I also feel the same way about crooked teeth.
You know the old saying…crooked teeth, crooked thief.
