If things now go as the corrupt Congress want, around midnight tonight a certain Rocío Silva Santisteban of the left wing Frente Amplio coalition will become the next interim President of Peru. This is another massive error from Peru’s Congress and will make things worse, not better. Now is not the time to swing from hard right to hard left, this choice of consensus leader stinks to high heaven. A waste of a groundbreaking moment for the country that may lead to even more violence as the week wears on.
UPDATE: It’s midnight local time and after a day of dealings in smoke-filled rooms, when it came to the moment to vote on the above deal the self-serving corrupt Congress voted the project down. Peru will now enter Monday with no Head of State and a dangerous power vacuum. Madness, utter madness.
