Peru and Hunt Oil: The confrontation is brewing

Check out this report from WW4 that has locals via the FENAMAD indigenous rights group and police in a (so far) non-violent but simmering confrontation at the site of the Hunt Oil exploration program. A quote:

“We will not permit the presence of the oil company, despite the fact that the state has united with the transnational, turning over to it our territories,” said FENAMAD’s Jaime Corisepa.

This problem is not going to go away if you simply ignore it. However that seems to be the Peruvian government’s tactic. This very same strategy caused a 30+ day standoff at Bagua that finally erupted into mutliple deaths and still unexplained disappearances.
