A piece wide open to interpretation, but every time I hear a different player the mind floats back to Alice Sara Ott and this, from her album ‘Nightfall’. Heavy on the evocative.
The fact that you get it on YouTube with a full-production Deutsche Grammophon promo video is a bonus and does no harm at all, either. FWIW, the whole Nightfall album (link here) is a house evening fave and includes a beautiful Gaspard de la Nuit. She makes the Scarbo sound easy.
She absolutely nails it, the tempo, the cadence, the pitch all spot on. Thank you. I could have done without the video, but that’s a matter of personal taste I suppose.
